Tips for Buying a Stairlift

A stairlift is an item that you may have to buy at some point in your lifetime. It is designed to make it easier for people to go up and down stairs. It may be used by someone who has a disability or by someone who is aging and finds it difficult to navigate the stairs on a daily basis.

Follow these tips for buying a good stairlift:
  • Buy your stairlift from a medical supply store. This is the best source for getting a high-quality stairlift.
  • Choose a stairlift that is designed for easy installation. It's a lot less expensive to install a stairlift if you can do it yourself. Doing so isn't difficult if you choose the right stairlift. Look for one that advertises an easy install process.
  • Look for a stairlift that folds back into the wall. You want a stairlift that can be easily pushed out of the way when not in use but which is easily accessible when you need it.
  • Invest some money in a good stairlift. Expect to spend between $1500 and $2500 for a good stairlift. It's worth it to pay for a better one. If the price is too high for you then look at used stairlifts which are high-quality but in good condition.

Take your time choosing a stairlift. You want it to make your life easier and a good one will do exactly that!

Becoming a Chef in my Spare Time

One of the dreams that I have always had is to own my own restaurant.  I was actually on track to do that right out of high school, but sometimes life gets in the way.  Though I am thankful for my little girl Jesse, becoming a parent at such a young age changed a lot of my plans.

Instead of going to get my culinary education like any other aspiring chefs my age, I found myself working as a waitress at many restaurants to keep a roof over our heads.  Sometimes we make sacrifices for our kids, and that is what I did – I put my dream of being a chef on hold to raise my child.

But now that she is older, our financial situation is a little better, so I have been looking into finally following my dreams.  I have enrolled in night classes at a local cooking school and I will be doing my studies at night.

Thankfully, I have great friends that are watching my child while I’m at school and my mother watches her during the day.  It is going to take a few years to finish my studies, but at least I will someday.  It will feel great to attain my dream of being a chef and provide a good life for my daughter.

Ask Questions at Networking Events

Many people attend networking events. These events allow you to meet people in your industry. This allows you to further your career and expand your opportunities in life. That's a great thing. You know what isn't such a great thing? The fact that most people who go to these networking events are there to try to impress other people. They spend so much time worrying about what they're going to say at these events that they don't take away a lot from each meeting. You can be different than this. If you choose to focus your networking on listening to others then you'll be someone who truly benefits from networking events.

The key to doing this is to ask questions. Everyone there wants to talk about his or her work so just ask about it. Let's say that you meet someone who says that he does consulting work for document management software providers. Ask him what these people do. Maybe you'll discover that you need to start using electronic document management systems yourself. Or maybe you'll simply have met someone who you'll then have in mind if you ever need this service. Either way, you've benefitted by asking about the person's work and listening to the answer. The fact that you listened is what will stand out in these people's minds and it will make them curious enough about you to follow up later via email to learn more.

Outsourcing Can Increase Your Productivity

working-on-business Like many business owners, I found myself wanting to do everything by myself.  My logic was that I could save a lot of money by keeping my wages down, and since I was going to be the beneficiary of whatever work that was done, I would reap all of the rewards.

I started out doing everything, but within the first couple of months, I realized that I was doing something wrong.  In my case, I was starting a small online empire, and I was building the sites, creating the content, and marketing them as well.  I hated the marketing part the most, and it was where I was the least effective, so I thought it would be a good place to start.  I also knew that there were a number of places that offered search engine optimization in Tampa, so I could go talk to someone in person.

The Tampa seo firm that I ended up using helped me to formulate and execute a marketing plan that I didn’t have to do myself.  As soon as they started marketing my first site, it felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders and I could focus on doing what I loved: making sites.

Has it made me more productive?

You bet.  Now that I can focus on what I am passionate about, I am able to get more done while working fewer hours.  That means I can spend more time with my family, which is why I went into business in the first place.  I really should have used outsourcing sooner.

Upgrading Our Lights

commercial-lighting Though we have tried to keep our expenses low this year, it seems that we have been plagued with many problems.  It all started out at the start of the year with a warehouse fire that destroyed three of our commercial properties.  Thankfully we have insurance on everything, but at the rate things are going, it might be hard for us to turn a profit this year.

The latest issue that we are facing is that we need to replace our lighting systems in some of our buildings.  Even though we did do some work last year and changed most of the indoor lighting to fluorescent light bulbs, we are now having to look at the exterior lighting we are using.

We wouldn’t have considered changing the outdoor lighting systems this year at all, but after one of our properties was hit by lightning, we have decided that we should just do everything at once.

So, we have been in talks with a number of firms to discuss the best lighting options for us.  So far it is looking like Metal Halide bulbs will be a good choice for us, but I think we are going to vote on it at the board meeting on Wednesday.

I just hope that there are no more problems for the rest of the year as I think management is too stressed out already.

Take Action Early to Save Your Business

The guy that owns the stables I'm boarding my horse at recently lost half of his barn's property to foreclosure. He'd gotten behind on the mortgage and couldn't afford to catch up.

The entire thing probably could have been avoided if he had taken action earlier on, when he first started falling behind. Business debt reduction is possible, but much of this kind of thing is about timing. If you haven't already gotten a professional involved to advise you on what to do and when, you may miss your window of opportunity.

Don't forget, your business's finances are at least as important, if not more important, as your personal finances, because of the fact that you are dependent on your business for income. In the barn owner's case, not only did the extra property allow him to keep more horses and offer more amenities for his boarders, he was also a landlord, as he rented out the house on the property. So in losing the property, he lost not one but two sources of business income.

If you think you might benefit from debt consulting to help you keep your businesses alive and well, be sure to seek help soon. Don't wait until it is too late, as the owner of my barn did!
